Nomad Rocket Stoves

This rocket stove has been made with every day use in mind.  If you are gold panning, hiking or camping you can quickly stop and set up.  You can heat up your meal, let your stove cool while you eat and then pack up so that you can continue on with your day.  It produces very little smoke which leaves you nothing but flame coming out of the flame stack, and that it does.  It isn’t called a “flame” stack for nothing.  The mix of air injection from the bottom feeding the suspended burning fire in the combustion chamber provides for an extremely efficient fire.  That is why there’s very little smoke produced during operation.

I’ve modified this stove making it easier to feed while cooking or if you just want to warm up.  The open feed system allows for quick easy inspection and refueling.

You can use this stove as is, keeping a low profile or attach the adjustable legs which will raise it up higher to minimize the heat transfer to the ground.  I’ve used this feature in Northern Canada to isolate the heat from frozen surfaces while setting up for lunch.  One of my travelling buddies cooked some food while traveling in a boat.  Glad to have the adjustable legs.

A Quick Fire

The obvious benefit is speed as you can usually be cooking within 2 – 3 minutes.  When you are done there is very little ash or residue left over which means a minimal footprint.  No one will know you’ve ever been there.

I’ve notched the underside of the cooking grate which allows a stable solid cooking surface while in use but then just pops off for easy transport.

There is also a removable fire grate which separates the fire from the air supply.  Having a bottom fed air supply is a major advantage over most other heating sources.  When you inject air to the center of a fire its heat gets very hot assuring complete smoke free combustion and usable heat for you.

Made from Low Carbon Steel

I’ve chosen low carbon steel because it will take repeated fires with no negative results.  There is no “hardening off’ problems as with higher carbon steel.  Internal grain growth in the metal wall is also next to non-existent.

A reliable cooking / heat source.  I’m not saying it will save your life if you’re stuck out in a remote area BUT it just might.
